New Channel 4 series The Circle is taking the U.K by storm.
The ‘social media experiment’ is providing a modern, fresh and exciting slice of reality TV, breaking the mould of what it is we expect from game shows at the same time.
Presenting the show is dynamic radio duo Maya Jama and Alice Levine, while The Circle narrator has a strangely recognisable voice, too.
Who is Sophie Willan? Why do you recognise her voice?
Who is The Circle Narrator?
Providing the voiceover tones for all of the apartment action is Sophie Willan.
Sophie is a 31-year-old comedian from Bolton.
Last year, Soph won a Herald Angel award for her stand-up show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
What Else Does Sophie Do?
Sophie hasn’t done any other notable voiceover work on TV.
If you think you recognise her voice or face, then it’s probably from that time you flicked past the Comedy Central channel. Here, Sophie’s stand-up acts are most prominent.
She’s now set for a host of future TV projects following her success on The Circle, including a role on CBBC series Class Dismissed. She’s also produced a book called The Tales of the Weird and Wonderful.

Sophie Willan: Personal Life
Sophie often cites back to her childhood and upbringing during her stand-up acts, identifying a tough life as a source of humour.
Her mother had a heroin addiction when she was younger and she left home at 15 years old, surviving off government allowance for a long period of time.
From here, the poverty-stricken road lead to a career as a female escort, before Sophie eventually found her feet in comedy.
